Software :: Transferring Files From Lacie To Pc / Itunes Unable To Find Music Files?

Aug 15, 2009

I have a Lacie external hard disk that was originally formatted for PCs. I have some files there, but more importantly, my iTunes library is saved directly on the Lacie (I have everything on apple lossless, so they are some big files). I will keep using this PC while connected to the Lacie hard disk to syncro my iPod.
The problem is that I bought a mac now and I wanted the Lacie hard disk to be able to transfer files from mac to pc and vice versa. I have already read that I would have to copy the files that are on the Lacie, reformat the Lacie and then paste the files back. My only doubt is that if I do this reformatting, will I have any problems using the iTunes library while connected to my pc and iPod?
I just ask that because every time I changed any iTunes library folder on the computer, the iTunes would say that the music file couldnt be found and ask me if I wanted to look for the file. I didnt want to reformat the Lacie to later find out that I would have to look for every single music file, because that would be nearly impossible. I dont know if I was able to make my question really clear

OS X :: LaCie External Hard Drive - Delete Files

Mar 11, 2009

I had just purchased a Lacie 500GB xternal drive for my G5, I also have another xternal drive hooked up which is a Western Digital. I copied everything , music video files ect... onto the Lacie drive to clean up the WD drive, now when I went to clean up the new Lacie drive the files I deleted are gone but it is not freeing up any space. I went to disk utilities and re-formatted but it wiped it clean, is there such a way to delete a few files here and there and gain the space they were taking up without going this route?

OS X :: Transferring Large Files From Macbook Pro To External Hard Drive

ToastNov 8, 2009

I am trying to transfer a large file (~7GB) from my macbook pro to my external drive... but seems that I keep getting an error. If I try to drag and drop from my Mac drive to the folder of my external hard drive I keep getting this message: 'The operation can?t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0).' I tried to use a UNIX command with the Terminal $mv file.xxx /Volumes/HardDrive/ at first it seemed to work, but after a while I receive this message from the Terminal: 'File too large' I am now frustrated... I need to save this large file for backup purposes and my external hard drive is not big enough to be used for Time Machine (it has 80GB out of 160 of space left)

Software :: Files Not Transferring To External HDD?

Oct 3, 2008

I am having issues getting files to transfer from my computer (MacOSX) to my external Hard Drive (it is an 'Elements' hard drive) When ever I try to add files to the HDD I get an error message that reads as, 'The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in 'file name' could not be read or written. (error code - 36)' What I don't understand is why I have previously been able to add files but I currently can not. I can however take files from the HDD.

OS X :: Transferring Files That Were On A External NTFS Hard Drive To A Mac?

May 18, 2009

I'm new to Mac so I'm sure its user error.
I recently bought a Macbook and I have a external USB hard drive that is formatted NTFS. I copied all of the files off of external HD and pasted them on my Macbook. I slicked the external hard drive and formatted it as FAT32 so I could read & write on both a PC and Mac if I need.
Anyways, once the external hard drive was formatted I tried moving all of the files back to the external but I keep getting and error code once I paste the files on the external drive. It says: 'Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred. Error code 0'
Now I'm not sure if the files are locked or what but I need help. I want to move them back to the external drive. It actually copies a few files to the external but nowhere near what all I need. They are just some .doc files that are on there

OS X :: External Hard Drive/transferring Files From Windows To Mac?

Dec 28, 2009

I have recently made the plunge into mac kingdom and very pleased so far.
I am going through the pain staking task of transferring music, photos etc.. from my windows laptop to my new macbook pro.
I started off by setting up file sharing and copying files but it is taking absolutely ages.
Ideally I would like to use my 500gb mybook external hard drive but given an experience I just had when putting a memory stick in my mac straight after loading it up from my pc am I likely to lose all my current external hard drive data?
Complete ball ache if thats the case as all my films are on there and burning it all to DVD would take forever.

I'm trying to copy the contents of my 2nd internal drive to an external drive (Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus), but at some point during the transfer it stops copying and completely locks up my computer. Not sure what the problem is. I don't know if this is related, but when I try and repair the 2nd internal disk while I have any other firewire (or usb) drives connected, I get an error message 'unable to unmount disk'. When all other drives are disconnected, I do a repair and there is no problem. Is that normal?

Software :: Occasional Files Not Transferring To External Hard Drive?

Jun 18, 2010

I just bought a 2TB OWC Mercury Elite Pro drive. And I'm passing data (mostly video) onto it from a WD MyBook drive. Both use the Journaled HSF format. I'm on a MacBook Pro (10.5.8).
Problem? Every so often I get a message saying 'The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data......could not be read or written.' And once this happens, the transfer falls into some limbo land it won't copy any more but i can't get rid of the 'copy' window showing the halted progress. I actually have to reboot just to begin the transferring process with another folder.
So what goes? In the last case, it was some JPG file that appeared to stop the action, usually it's some kind of video file. But I can't find any rhyme or reason to why this occurs, nor can I find any distinguishing characteristic of the offending files.

MacBook :: How To Amount LaCie External HDD?

Apr 22, 2010

A few months ago I bought a new LaCie 'Little Disk' external 500 GB HDD. Has Firewire and USB power.
Formatted for both Windows and Mac (Fat32). Everything was going fine. One day the disk would not eject. That is when the problems started. I had to manually remove the disk without ejecting.
Having done this with my other LaCie external HDD without any future problems (it would always remount) I didn't think anything of it.
Since then, the disk will not mount on either the Mac or the PC. The disk will not mount using the Firewire or the USB power connectivity even though the blue power light is on.
When I open Disk Utility with the LaCie plugged in, Disk Utility crashes. When I open Disk Utility before the LaCie is plugged in and then plug the LaCie in afterwards, it crashes.
I tried plugging the LaCie in before booting my MacBook to see if that worked, but that method prevented the MB from booting at all!
Contacted LaCie about this but have yet to hear back. I'm convinced that this can be solved cleanly without any data loss. Suggestions?

MacBook Pro :: Lacie Rugged XL 2TB External Hard Drives.

May 14, 2012

I recently purchased two Lacie Rugged hard drives, a 500GB for client use (meaning, it is given to clients to review raw footage and then given back to me where I then make edits.) The 500GB is calibrated at 50% Mac usage and 50% other and it has been worked out fine thus far. The other hard drrive is a 2TB Rugged XL Hard Drive has not been used due to the pop up I get when clicking the LaCie Setup Assistant which reads 'You can't open the application LaCie Setup Assisstant because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.'
1.) What does 'You can't open the application LaCie Setup Assisstant because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.' mean?
2.) How do I fix it?
3.) Will fixing it effect my 500GB drive?

I bought a Seagate Free Agent Go Flex External drive. I transferred all my files from my previous external HD. I can't change any of the information or move things! All of them are locked and 'read only.' I know how to change it, but only manually, individually. I have several hundreds of folders and I don't want to manually change all of them to 'Read & Write.' Is their a way to let me re-set the folders to 'Read & Write' easily??

MacBook Pro :: Transferring Files Over WiFi - Fails To Transfer All Files?

Feb 16, 2010

I'm banging my head against the wall with this problem. I have a new MBP 13', 4GB Ram, etc etc. When I transfer files across my network (or the office network), it will consistently fail to transfer a few of the files. For instance, I just tried to copy 50 photos to an SMB share on our server here at the office. The transfer window show the progress of 50 files, but when I look at the folder, there are only 48 files. Sometimes I get less, sometimes I get all 50. The same goes for my home network to an SMB share. I've confirmed this failure over N and G networks. The AP at home and the office are different models and I went as far as purchasing a new one for home since I thought it was the problem. Same results. Is there some hardware error going on here with my wifi card? Is there any way to test it? Are the SMB shares the problem?

Hardware :: LaCie External HDD Never Spins Down - Is It Normal

Mar 19, 2009

Download Lacie Toast For Macbook Pro 2020

Unlike the other external HDD that I built years ago, the LaCie drive does not spin down even when it is not being accessed. This is annoying because my iMac runs silently but the LaCie drive is quite loud with the HDD spinning.
Is this normal for an external HDD? How can I make it spin down when it's not being used?
Having said above, the LaCie drive does spin down when I put the iMac to sleep.
